Kay Wakatake is a seasoned attorney and authority on privacy, cybersecurity, and national security law. She serves as legal counsel for businesses, with a focus on data privacy and cybersecurity. She is Co-Editor of the U.S. Intelligence Community Law Sourcebook.

Kay retired as a Colonel from the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps after 22 years of distinguished service on active duty, culminating as the Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel for The U.S. Army Surgeon General. She is an experienced leader having served in numerous supervisory positions with the U.S. Army Medical Command, U.S. Army Special Operations Command, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, and the U.S. Army Office of The Judge Advocate General. Kay deployed to the Ramadi-Fallujah-Al Asad combat zone in Iraq as the Brigade Judge Advocate with the 3rd Infantry Division to help establish the rule of law in those communities.

Kay received her J.D. from the Pepperdine University School of Law; B.A. from the University of Notre Dame; and LL.M. from the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School. She is licensed to practice law in California and Washington, as well as the Supreme Court of the United States and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces. She is a certified data privacy professional with the CIPP/US certification and a Cybersecurity Certification from Google.
